Union Station

Union Station is a historical building in downtown DC located near the National Mall and the Capitol building. From the outside it looks like a building that would come out of Italy, but inside it appears to be a bustling American mall with shops and restaurants everwhere you turn. There is conveniently a Metro Station located below, and a car rental area above. It is a transportation hub no matter how you are traveling. The people vary from businesspeople running off to the next city to make a deal, teenagers shopping for a weekend outfit, security keeping a watchful eye over photographers like me, to the interesting characters just sitting around talking to themselves. Union Station is a beautiful building and is a great representation of security in transportation areas since 9/11, ideaology of the American dream, the rituals of a frequent traveler, and the authority the transportation service has over everybody's daily lives.
